maybe it's too much cheating but perhaps you can try what I'm doing (unless of course we get a big finger wag from someone who actually does pullups and chinups

) ....for my pull ups training - I'm placing myself so that I can be in the up position already without the jump and then I let go of the foot support and work on lowering slowly over and over again - which seems plenty of a butt kicker for me at this point...

(I don't like the jumping right now either - mostly because I can't yet hold myself up if I arrive at the bar with any momentum
